Edit PHP-serialized entry as Text and update MySQL database using Javscript

I have a long text field in a mySQL database that stores serialized data. I would like to update this field from Google appscript / javascript. Updating the field directly with a string of the serialized data does not work. I need a way to update the database with an update statement, to update the php serialized field. Here is an example of the contents of the field: a:5:{i:0;O:27:"WpProQuiz_Model_AnswerTypes":7:{s:10:"*_answer";s:33:"A. Standard pages are part of MVC";s:8:"*_html";b:1;s:10:"*_points";i:1;s:11:"*_correct";b:0;s:14:"*_sortString";s:0:"";s:18:"*_sortStringHtml";b:1;s:10:"*_mapper";N;}i:1;O:27:"WpProQuiz_Model_AnswerTypes":7:{s:10:"*_answer";s:36:"B. There is something like this "�*�_answer" in the database.
