it's an online vacuums store that we launched a couple of years ago. the site has been surprisingly successful, generating good sales numbers for my client. here are the links; there is an english version: [login to view URL] and a french version: [login to view URL] the site was built using HTML table-based templates, PHP scripting and MySQL databases. there is an e-commerce module that lets users buy any item in the product lines. there is a complete Admin module that lets the client modify / delete / add categories and/or products. although the sites have been successful and generate sales, there are several bugs and glitches that have lingered (the programmer that did the site is often very slow to fix stuff and his code is not 100% bug-free). the mandate of your team for this new project would be: -- redesign the HTML templates with HTML/CSS W3C-compliant code -- clean up and/or re-write the PHP scripts throughout the sites -- clean up and/or re-write the MySQL databases -- clean up and/or re-write the e-commerce Shopping Cart module -- create the CMS for managing the website (either custom-designed or using a solid open source framework) -- unify both websites (french and english) in the same code base -- make sure that security is optimal throughout the site and Shopping Cart (we've had several hacking attempts in recent months, and we had to close down the site's Forums because of those security breaches) furthermore, note that my client has a plan to eventually offer his e-commerce website solution as a standalone product: he would like to launch another website, where he would offer businesses a turn-key ecommerce solution, based on his vacuums website. in other words, the ideal scenario would be that the new version of the website is designed and coded in a way that makes it easy to duplicate the codebase for other types of businesses, with as little intervention as possible. we could then offer this e-commerce solution to small businesses, with several basic page templates that offer color and design variations, etc. No time wasters please!
