Analyzing Downloaded Files with VirusTotal

The project will consist in automatically analyzing downloaded files with VirusTotal and deleting the files once they have been processed. To this end, the Chrome Extension will (1) intercept the downloads, (2) compute the SHA256, (3) check if VirusTotal has the hash, (4) get the analysis, and (5) show the report to the user. In case VirusTotal does not have the file, the Chrome Extension will upload the file on VirusTotal and wait for the analysis to be completed. Upon failure, a retry should be done (e.g. a Back off exponential). It is worth noting that the JavaScript API will be provided.
