Hello, what I do is data mining / machine learning on business data. Just broadly put - I take company data and research ways for the client to make more money out of it, in a variety of ways. Part of the job includes building data warehouses to keep all that data and process it (transform or extract, etc) in order to make it useful. Typically these days I use hadoop (or Big Data) as it allows for more freedom over the data (i.e. to develop more and more 'perspectives' over it), but I don't mind SQLs too, if you insist. :) Clients often include companies similar to yours, as their business is data and it is important to find different kinds of value contained in it (what's valuable to whom?) and so on. A bit about me - I started working with data in 2000, at a major mobile telecom here in Bulgaria, I left in 2007 to continue as a freelancer and last year I established a small consulting company. I have to point out here I can't do UIs - I can help by taking the side of data and offering suggests on how it can be used on a UI, but can't actually do web.
