Debugging, updating, refactoring of custom Wordpress theme & plugin

I have a Wordpress plugin and theme that were originally coded years ago by a developer who moved on long ago. The project was therefore shelved for a long time, and I have decided to resurrect it. The problem is that there are bugs, unfinished features, and Wordpress issues due to updates over the years, and the code needs updating. It also was never commented properly, much of what was built is beyond my exact understanding and some things I can't really even remember exactly what they were for. It's entirely possible that the issues with it aren't nearly as complex for a good developer as they seem to me. I was already able to fix a few of them myself but there are more that are over my head. This project will require work on both a plugin and a custom theme (in fact I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to have put the theme features we built into a plugin in the first place, but we can discuss that). It will require a great deal of autonomy on your part, and the ability to figure things out with sometimes little to no direction. If you like puzzles, this is for you. Unless you were directly invited to this project, you *must* mention your specific experience with jQuery and dataTables when contacting me. This is both because it will be important to the project, and also to demonstrate that you actually read this thoroughly and can follow direction. Failure to do so will result in instant disqualification. Obviously since this is Wordpress it will require total comfort in the Wordpress API as well as the LAMP stack. I'm in California and have no other "job" so am easy to reach and available pretty much all the time, and I need the same from you. Above all I need excellent communication from a developer. I can't be wondering what's going on with something because I haven't had any update for days. I use Asana for task/project management, bug tracking, etc. and github to push code. I have developed numerous software products over the years but took several years off. Now I'm getting back to it again and if this project goes well, I will definitely have additional projects in the future.
