logo design

I need a logo (website and businesscard) for a new startup IT company. The companies main activities will be offshore software development. The name of the company is 'devinition'. In an attempt to create a logo ourselves, we ended up with an example. However, we don't like how it looks, just the idea. Devinition can be seen as for 'development inition', but also as a clear 'definition' of the entire software development iterations. As we want high quality for our products, we also want a high standard logo. 1) In our logo there's a filled check box representing the 'v' in devinition. (Idea behind this is a slogan like 'check devinition', we work this out later). This is one idea 2) Other idea is a logo with an octopus in it. The octopus represents the faster development cycle for the same project price (8 'hands' instead of 2). This idea is not worked out. We are not able to get this image drawn ourselves as we lack the imagination ;) 3) We would like you to come up with an idea of your own. Keywords are: Company name: Devinition Sector: Software engineering (offshore development) Target: Professional IT market, (ranging from mid-range companies to big companies such as banks) Looks: efficient, flexible, creative, reliable, not too flashy. We would like you to deliver a Vector image and psd file (with layers). ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. However, we've decided that we pick a designer from the ones that have actually send us an example of their work on the devinition logo. This shouldn't be hours of work ofcourse, but at least we need to get the impression that you are creative and can actually handle the assignment.
