Problem with a clean install of opencart image manager

I have used Opencart previously and always struggled with the image manager. In the end I gave up. Now I have a new hosting company and I'm fairly familiar with Opencart so thought I'd give it another try. However Image manager is still a problem as it was before. I watch demos of simply clicking to create new folders, deleting, uploading etc. but mine fails consistently. I can provide a clean install (by hosting company installer) There must be a problem with the setup somewhere. I'd like somebody to do nothing other than correct the problem with image manager. I can provide opencart log in details. Thank you.
