Data Mining using MATLAB

The project is intended to allow students to explore a glimpse of each of the classification, clustering, and regression techniques. Each student will be responsible for implementing an algorithm of their choice from one of the above areas such that each group would have an implementation of a classification technique, a clustering technique and a regression technique. Group formation will be required early on in the semester and each group will be provided a dataset to work with. Part of this project includes investigating the data set to understand the nature of the data it represents as well as checking if any preprocessing is needed or not. You will be using Matlab to implement and test your techniques and provide as assessment accordingly of its accuracy. Finally a collective report will be submitted that includes an overview of your dataset and how it was pre-processed (if any). Each group member will then provide a section that briefly explains the technique of their choice and their reasoning for choosing it, as well as a documentation of how the assessment of the implementation was carried out. You will conclude by reflecting on your work in terms of whether it can be further enhanced or not and if so, then how? You should also provide suggestions as to how the techniques you implemented can be used in real life. You will be asked to present your work at the end of the semester and a discussion will take place. All group members are required to know the contents of their project as a whole, regardless of who implemented which part.
