I need a low cost, reliable, and safe, universal AC input SMPS that will output 48V @ 0.5A and 5V @ 0.4A.
The design must be isolated, and have full circuitry for EMI, and be able to be safety certified.
The selected designer will be responsible for the following:
1. Design of the power supply.
2. Design of the transformer.
3. Documentation of the transformer design, i.e. core material, core manufacturer, winding
information, and construction details.
4. Sourcing three manufacturers for the transformer in China, including a quote on cost and
lead time, you will also be required to obtain samples of the transformers.
5. Complete Bill of Materials including component suppliers, and costs, components to be
sourced from china. Components to be readily available and not going obsolete in the next
3 years.
6. Schematic capture in Altium.
7. PCB layout in Altium.
8. Building and testing a prototype for each transformer sourced.
9. Providing full documentation of the design including test results.

Hi, i have ecperience working for a power supply manufacturing company so, i have experience designing power supplies and also working in the design and manufacturing of transformers, knowing severals types of transformer cores and materials, i you want to i can show you some designs of these transformers. I would use a Flyback power topology.
The input voltage would be 85 - 265.
The output voltage would be 48 VDC and 5 VDC.

You want me to come up with a design that will meet EN61204-3: EN55022 conductive and EN55011radiative EMI, taking AC power fro 85V AC to 285V AC and produce 48V DC @ 0.5A and 5V @ 0.4A DC. I propose a three-section module: the first section will be a PFC compliant active rectification unit, powered by a dedicated PFC controller IC; the second section will comprise of a full-bridge Zero-Volt-Switching topology, switching into the primary side of a transformer, tuned with capacitors COSS or augmented and the leakage inductance of the transformer, probably augmented too; the third section will be synchronous rectification arrangement, both sections under the control of one IC, the whole unit under a supervision of a Microcontroller for Temperature and other chores. The output must be from a multi-wound transformer.
