STRESS MANAGEMENT By Akshay Sinha
Stress can be defined as our mind and body’s response of action to a real or imagined threat, event or change. Stress is very much a part of modern life with good or bad effects. It is like salt. Without it food becomes tasteless.
Stressors
The threats, event or changes which stimulate stress are commonly stressors. It may be of two types;
1. Internal stressors-thoughts, beliefs and attitudes.
2. External stressors- loss, tragedy and change.
Types of stress
There are two types of stress
1. Positive stress or Eustress.
2. Negative stress or distress
Eustress
Eustress or positive stress occurs when your level of stress is high enough to motivate you to move into action to get things accomplished. This offers potential gains leads to superior performance e.g. athlete. Positive stress results in increased concentration and energizes you to move in to action.
Distress
Distress or negative stress occurs when your level of stress is either too high or too low and your body and mind begin to respond negatively t the stressors. It results loss of motivation, reduced effectiveness, physical, mental and behavioural problems.

It has three stages
Alarm stage
Resistance stage
Exhaustion stage
