Part 1 – 50 marks
Based on the project information in Tables 1, 2 and 3, perform the following tasks using Microsoft Office ProjectTM. Assume the activities are conducted 5 working days/week, 8 hours per day, and no holiday throughout the project duration. Activities are initially set as ‘fixed duration’ and ‘non-effort driven’.
a) Produce a Gantt chart.
(15 marks)
b) Produce a precedence diagram.
(13 marks)
c) Update the Gantt chart based on the project progress report at the end of working day 30.
(12 marks)
d) Perform earned value analysis.
(10 marks)
Explain your steps for each of the above (i.e. the marks include your explanation). The outputs should be printed and reported. Please state any assumption that you might have.
Part 2 – 50 marks
Based on the project information in Tables 1, 2 and 3, perform the following tasks manually:
a) Draw an activity network using Precedence Diagramming Method, perform forward and backward pass computation, and determine total project duration.
(13 marks)
b) Determine the critical path. For each activity, determine whether the float is free and/or total.
(7 marks)
c) Draw a Gantt chart (using Microsoft Excel), highlight critical activities and indicate the floats.
(8 marks)
d) Based on data capture at the end of working day 30, calculate planned value (BCWS), earned value (BCWP) and actual cost (ACWP) (for overall project) based on proportionality rule, and plot these values in one graph (using Microsoft Excel).
