SHORT DESCRIPTION: We are looking for one or more people to celebrate the independence day of a country OTHER than their own on that country's independence day. Then, email us a photo of your celebration and a short description of what you did. This is for an international art project called "59 Days of Independence". The following countries are available. Just pick one and do something to honor the people of that country on that county's independence day: October 10 Figi October 27 St Vincent and the Grenadines, November 11 Antigua & Barbuda November 3 Dominica December 31 Qatar The celebrations can be big, small, ordinary, or extraordinary. LONGER DESCRIPTION: "59 Days of Independence" is a project that invites people around the world to celebrate the independence days of 59 countries that once gained freedom from British colonization. The most important part of the project is that everyone is celebrating for a country other than his or her own. We post this documentation to the "59 Days of Independence" Facebook site and then "boost" it to the country being celebrated so that thousands of people in that country can see that someone from a distant point on the globe was thinking about them on their independence day. Thus far, over one million people have seen these posts and over 3,000 are following the updates. We have all of the countries covered except for the ones listed above so we are looking for people to "adopt" one and celebrate on that day. Your celebration can be big, small, ordinary or extraordinary. It can be something that you already do, just dedicated to the people of your selected country on that country's independence day. For example, in the photos, you will see: * a group of kids in northern Pakistan dedicating a game of cricket to the people of Sri Lanka on Sri Lanka's independence day. * a teacher from America climbing up a mountain with her students carrying the flag of Guyana on Guyana's independence day * a group in Uganda doing a special prayer for the people of Kuwait on Kuwait's independence day * a young girl in America showing the flag of the Solomon Islands she made out of fruit on the independence day of the Solomon Islands * that's me after making "lap lap", the national dish of Vanuatu on Vanuatu's independence day We have a lot of Americans participating, so we are particularly looking for participants from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and South America. If interested, please bid with the following information: * The country you are from * The country are choosing to celebrate * How you will celebrate that country's independence day (it can be ordinary or extraordinary) * Your bid What you will be responsible for: 1. Choose a country from the list above. 2. Have some form of a celebration/event/act on that country's independence day to honor the people of that country. 3. Email me a photo(s) of the celebration/act/event and a brief description of what you did. No experience in the arts is necessary. You can be of any age and any profession. We are making a book that includes all of the documentation at the end. Note: We haven't hired people in the past. We are now nearing the end of the project, however, and we REALLY want to be sure that we have people to celebrate every country on our list. These are the only ones that are still open.
