I bought a very small PHP plugin for wordpress, just 68 lines of PHP, that adds some cron jobs, that regularly changes the modification date of posts. I need this functionality to be improved. But first, I want a paragraph of comments added above each of the 6 functions, and comments added above every line of database-related code (sql stuff), to explain in laymans terms, to me, what is going on. (it had no comments in it)
I think refreshes the modification time, daily, of any post that is 'checked' (has an enabled Checkbox for this functionality).
The modifications I want, include:
- Apply it to all posts, not just 'checked' posts. Change the checkbox to 'omit' posts from being automatically updated.
- Count all the posts, randomize (shuffle) the sequence, and work through the sequence of posts from start to finish, to simulate updating them in random order.
- Add randomized time between 5 to 10minutes*, between posts, of when modification is updated, to simulate a human taking 5-10 minutes to update a post.
- Simulate a 10 hour work-day, and only have posts update during that time, (randomize 8 to 10 hours per workday**),
- If there are more posts than can be updated in one simulated day ( like many hundreds of posts), then continue the sequence onto the next day, before making a new sequence.
- Can store files in wp-content/plugin/whatever-is-this-plugins-name/ folder to save whatever data is needed.
- Should re-calculate number of posts, only when a new shuffled sequence is being created, not after each post is added.
- Should tolerate posts being deleted and other errors gracefully, and not do infinite loops or a lot of re-checks.
- * the parameters for 5 to 10 minutes, and ** the parameters for 8 to 10 hours, should have a UI created in wordpress admin somewhere, where I can change the values and save them, and it should show me the calculated number of posts per day that it will update, and the number of days to complete all my posts before starting over.
Hi, The prime work of your plugin is to change the post modification date ? "Can store files in..." - Does the plugin store files using any API or feed ? Can you provide further info of what the plugin exactly do ?
I can comment the code to make you understand the function usage. Also include additional/extended settings page to change the expected intervals. Thanks.
