Do a calculation using a number entered on a web page and show result

Hello I would like to have a single field on a web page that I can enter a long number (like 123456789). The number is taken and run through my simple formula and another number is produced in the field below the previous field. Do not worry about the cosmetics of the page as I will do that, I just need the ability to enter the number and run the calculation when the 'submit' button is pressed and then present the result in the other field. A real life example to give you an idea of what I'm trying to achieve is when you go to a web site and enter the serial number from trial version software so that an unlock key is generated to unlock the software into a licensed version. I have created a simple web page like my exapmle above with the layout that I need and attached it to this Bid Request. I have left in some old VB script code that was once used to accept passwords to let a user log in to a web page; I left this in because I was going to try and tweak the code to do what I wanted for this Bid Request because the interface and handling of the data looked similar to what I needed. I gave up this idea very quickly in favour of RAC. You can of course ditch that code and use what ever you like to achieve what I am looking for. I hope this makes sense and appeals to someone.
