A little Joomla link directory setup help

Basically, I am working on setting up an installation of Joomla to be used as a link directory. Some very basic layout work needs to be done, but only in the direction of scaling down the default Joomla layout, to make it as simple and text-only as possible. Let's just say I want a directory of links to delis. I want a national page where one can search for delis and sandwiches nationwide, or they can click on their state and find delis in New Jersey, for example. After going to the state site, they can find the directory finally broken down into counties, cities, and then categories (for example, hot sandwiches and cold sandwiches). The process of adding/removing entries should be as simple as possible. The only requirement outside of basic Joomla functionality is a script to check all of the entries in the database for broken links, and somehow notify the site administrator in the control panel, and provide an option to remove them. ## Deliverables The only other note is that there must be some function that allows us to later mass-add links to initially populate the site. I am hoping that Joomla supports this. If not, please advise.
