Compile Android Messaging app (packages/apps/Mms)

I need to create a modified version of the Android native Messaging application. In other words, I need to compile a copy of a piece of the Android source: the Messaging app that lives in packages/apps/MMs, so that I can modify it into a new standalone installable application. This requires knowledge of the Android tool chains that I don't have (since, as is, the app depends on many internal APIs). I'm looking for someone who knows how to do this and can create a copy of the app that will compile and install cleanly for me. ## Deliverables I'd like the build to be from the Donut source tree. I will expect the copied app to load and run on Android 1.6 or later.
