Basically I have an application written in VB6 that I have been working on for some period of time, and I want to find out if there is a way to add an update feature that will do the following : 1. When a user runs the application and presses the update button, the application will immediately scan the current mdb file and check to see that the websites that are currently listed are active, meaning if they will load e.g. like [login to view URL] loading normally, and not getting a 404 error or something. 2. If the update function finds a website that it can’t connect too, or if there is someway for the function to check too see of the URL is valid, and if it isn’t, then remove the contents from the database, so it’s always valid and up-to-date. 3. I have all the coding for the application, I just need to know if someone can create the additional function required for this application. 4. If the application works successfully, then there will be additional features that I would like to work on as well.
With further adjustment to this project, I would also like to inform that this project is open source, and even though its open source for the community, I am requiring additional help.
For whom ever helps me with this project, I will need your permission before I even accept the bid from you, to use your credentials on my open source site saying you were also one of the developers in helping me expand my application.
A more detailed explanation of the update feature:
In the database there are about 200 websites, some of which are dead.
Using VB I require some code that will look into the database and validate to see if that website is either dead or currently still active.
If the website is dead, (like when you ping a ip address and it times out), then the VB code will remove the website that is dead, and update the contents of the database, so the user, no matter what website they visit, will load.
