BTS Detection Device & Software

The following pilot project is to develop a device which prevents a IMSI catcher attack and so called man-in-he-middle-attack (MITM). The so-called BTS detection device (BTS Detection Device = BTS DD) alerts us if a new BTS Cell ID (can be a new stationary or mobile BTS) is discovered in the area of the device's operation. That means the BTS DD is always monitoring in predefined time slots its surrounding BTS / Cell Ids. As soon an unexpected event (new BTS) in the above cases arises, the BTS DD optionally will also to take action. Alerting should be done by Internet (ADSL) in connection with an assigned Network Monitor System as PRGT ([login to view URL]), where a sensor is monitoring the BTS DD. Optional action can be controlling a relay that will shut off a main device, eg. a computer, which is connected to the BTS DD (and a relay in between). During the shut off time, the BTS DD is still monitoring the BTS environment. As soon as the original state of the BTS environment comes back, the Network Monitor System will receive this information accordingly. The user needs to decide thereafter to switch on the main device or not, by talking to the relay using Telnet or other means in order to switch on / switch off the connected computer. This project requires programming of a IMSI-CATCHER app for Android based on the extended requirements. This needs also deep GSM knowledge. As well, also some hardware know-how is required, since a Android phone needs a Ethernet-Port and other hardware add-ons. Also knowledge about GSM Protocol, GSM and Open BTS could be helpful.
