Build a Website

We are a start-up in need an interested full-stack (java is most important) developer. We are building a platform that will allow people to collaboratively study the Bible. We will then scale the project so that it can be used by schools--welding social media and education. This is a big project, so don't apply if you're not interested in what we're doing. We already have a team of three and we're all working for the payoff at the end rather than the paycheck now. Intro to Everyword: People are not reading the bible as much as they’d like because it is not a predictably fulfilling experience. If runners could see themselves lose weight and get in shape while they ran, people would find much more time for it. Heck, it would even be enjoyable. But getting in shape is a slow and arduous process, with little to no positive reinforcement. It is the same reason that people can spend hundreds of hours playing Guitar Hero but can hardly endure a few guitar lessons. The difference is that Guitar Hero provides direct and instantaneous social and musical fulfillment. People are able to learn to play through an entire song after two or three attempts—something unimaginable on a real guitar. Likewise, readers of the Bible have a similar problem: They want to read because they feel they should, but their reading experience is not predictably fulfilling. It’s either too hard or it’s facile. They’re either playing chopsticks or failing to play Beethoven. We want to change things by making Biblical reading a predictably fulfilling experience. We will do this by creating a collaborative, social, and devotional reading platform. Our model is based on social learning theories that are being corroborated by a large and growing body of scholarship. Studies are showing that when people are provided authentic access to community learning becomes enjoyable, natural, and fulfilling. The barebones of these theories are that social interaction is an important part of the learning process. Everyword will allow people to interact with friends, meet new friends, and share thoughts and experiences of their own as well as follow people they like. When people open Everyword, they will already know what they will find: comments, thoughts, and pictures their friends have posted while they were gone. Biblical reading is no longer a chore, but an outlet! Essentially what we are doing is focusing the power of social media on a specific text. As things stand now, social media is a way of crowdsourcing and annotating the web (and the world for that matter). It allows for millions of people to collaborate together, to find things worth sharing, to like things worth seeing, to follow people worth hearing, and to connect over shared interests. We are focusing this power on The Bible. It is vast like the world-wide-web, but if we crowdsource the Bible, and allow people to share their insights, it suddenly becomes social, accessible, and fulfilling. But this is just the beginning of Everyword. There is no reason a similar thing could not be done with Shakespeare. We believe that the technology we develop will be transferrable to other texts. Our website application will allow classes and reading groups, friends and companies, to study literature together in a social and collaborative way. We are beginning with the Bible because it is the most ready niche market. But we don’t mean to stop there. We will learn what we can from the Everywordbible and then continue to grow.
