My learning style serves as the most critical aspect for me out of the four. I am a visual and kinesthetic learner, which explains why I had so much success in Information Technology. The VAK System, which stands for Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic, theorizes that “each of us prefers to learn through one of these senses. And we can enrich our learning with activities that draw on the other channels” (Ellis, 2014). I used my hands to fix computer hardware (kinesthetic). I designed and viewed diagrams and maps (visual). Listening to someone lecture (auditory) sounds as appealing to me as a root canal, so knowing this also helps me understand why I skipped classes in the past.
The second aspect, my writing skills, will only serve as a catalyst for my success. I’ve always had strong writing acumen, and I only enhanced my skills during my professional career. I have written countless analyses, business justifications, presentations, project charters, etc. Despite all of this practice, I quickly noticed the differences in writing academic papers versus professional papers. I had forgotten all of the rules on academic papers, so I’m excited to be able to learn again. College will only increase my writing skills.
