Ammonia vaporization CFD Modeling to prove vaporization and other flow conditions
$250-750 USD

This project is to calculate and evaluate the various variables around vaporizing liquid 19% Ammonia (remaining amount is 81% water) using atomized air nozzles inside a vaporization chamber. Goal is to model with CFD the diameter and corresponding height of a vaporization chamber that has 1, 2, or 3 atomizing air nozzles inside of it (most likely is two nozzles). The atomizing air nozzle(s) will be used and details are attached. Nozzles should always be in or near middle of vaporization chamber as low as possible.
19% Ammonia mixture can have a line pressure of 40 – 80 psig
19% Ammonia mixture can have minimum fluid temperature of 20 F
19% Ammonia mixture flow rate is 260 lb/hr (~31-32 GPH)
Heated air flow rate 4725 lb/hr (1240 SCFM)
- Based on flow rate the inlet and outlet pipe can either be 10” or 12” diameter are possible, but one of main goals is to have very low pressure drop. 10” diameter piping would have higher flow velocities but I will leave this to the discretion of the person performing CFD. Piping at inlet and outlet can be larger than 12” if found needed for good vaporization or pressure drop minimization.
Heated air is what is being used to mix with the atomized 19% ammonia mixture to vaporize it. Heated air temperature can range from 750 F to 800 F at air pressures of 35 – 38 inches of water column. Inlet and outlet will be smaller diameter than the vaporization chamber, please suggest best size. Markup for a chamber from another project will be given for an example.
Nozzle being used is XAAD 300 – Nozzle is as close to inlet nozzle top as possible, and nozzles are in middle of vaporization chamber, items included with this right up are reference.
Based on review of nozzle sizing, two nozzles will be needed to meet 19% Ammonia flow needs.

Goals:
- To have as small as possible vaporization chamber that ensures all liquids are vaporized while using as low temperature heated air as possible.
o Will take several iterations to come up with correct size and various review of operation.
- Need to know pressure drop details from inlet to outlet of this vaporizing system. Need smallest possible pressure drop, system is pressure sensitive for outlet.
- Need to have temperature, velocity, volume, and time modeled with CFD to show progression of the sprayed 19% ammonia.
- Need results to come in written, picture, and video format to relay work completed.
- Work should be completed in a quick nature, do not want to drag out project for extended period.
