quick ms sql query - group and order

have database with half dozen fields two of which are xtime and xfrom - xtime is datetime field and xfrom is string with phone numbers. I need a query that will get me a listing that includes all records that has the records in descending time order - but has all the phone numbers grouped - so it only uses the time of the first record with that phone number - so I have 50 records over 10 hours - I need the records shown with most recent phone number and then all of the records for that phone number - then the next phone number by time desc. and all the records for that - etc. etc.
I am doing in a web page so i can do a loop with more than one query if that helps - just can't seem to figure out how to make this work easily.
