Help me master connection to USB-devices

Hi,

I am on a project reading data from code-bar reader (something we see on every shop in the world).

I managed to connect a usb barcode-reader under Ubuntu 12 : everything was fine till I changed of barcode-reader : the new one wouldn't be recognized by my python script.

Furthermore, when I tried to move my script to Raspbian, it didn't work. And my barcode reader working under Ubuntu wouldn't be recognised under Mac OS. And the same with windows (I struggled installing libusb dlls).

So, I have a working example of my script under Ubuntu, but I am struggling in making it change of OS or USB-device.

I need someone to :

1) debug the scripts and make the USB-connectivity working on Mac-OS & Windows for the already-working usb-device

2) making the script work on UBUNTU + WINDOWS + Mac OS for the new usb-device (which I couldn't make working on any of the OS)

3) Show me how is it working

4) I am a pythonista, so the scripts should be provided in Python
