Build a script that allows drawing on a map + records coordinates

Okay, the concept is this:
I play a video game with maps that has static maps. These maps have monsters on them at specific locations, X,Y coordinates.
- I need a way to draw (with mouse, and/or auto-generated) a route between these monster location points. Also, save these x,y locations to a file every +$x (1,2,5,10 coordinate points) away.
I'm happy to explain more, but I basically want to allow a user to draw on a map (i have the images of maps) -> and save route

I'm curious to find out more. Are there any variables that need considering (speed of monster, view range of monster). I did something similar for my undergrad course, so I'm sure I can be of some help.
