CCD camera

I need a application does not matter what language is used to run under either Linux or Windows to capture images from the CCD in a optical mouse without rewiring the mouse. It should work on both USB and PS/2. This should display a greyscale image to the application which we can then use for our other applications (Already developed). The application should also be able to save a rendered image to disc
