Debug and optimize wordpress website - 500 error

When I access my website using mobile, if I click on one of the buttons on the homepage, I sometimes get a 500 error. I contacted the server support and they said that the number of processes from the website exceeds 25 and that is causing it. (No one else is logged on at that moment)
Need to debug and try to find out what the issue is and how to optimize the process count and to avoid the 500 error.
From Desktop, the 500 error occurs - but very rarely. It is more prevalent when I access using mobile.
This was working fine previously. But has started occurring in the last 3-4 months.
