Write a five page ethical analysis of an engineering disaster utilizing one of the three approaches to ethics we have studied (Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, Kantian Deontological Ethics or Utilitarianism).
This is a three step process.
Step One: Choose and explain an engineering disaster.
Step Two: Explain in detail one of the three approaches to ethics we have studied (Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, Kantian Deontological Ethics or Utilitarianism). How is this approach used to determine what is right or wrong?
Step Three: Utilize the style of ethics you chose to provide an ethical analysis of the case. (HINT: If you chose Virtue Ethics, you should utilize Aristotle to identify the relevant moral virtues. Then you should discuss whether or not the key players embodied these virtues. If you chose Kantian Deontological Ethics, you should utilize the Categorical Imperative to determine the moral rules relevant to the case. Then discuss whether the key players obeyed or broke these rules. If you chose Utilitarianism, you should utilize Bentham’s Hedonic Calculus to determine whether or not the choices made by the key players delivered the greatest good to the greatest number of people impacted.)
The paper should be a minimum of five pages, double spaced using 12 point font.
The paper will be graded on accuracy of content and clarity of expression.
Include a complete bibliography.
If you chose Virtue Ethics, you should utilize Aristotle’s Nichomachean Ethics in your explanation of virtue ethics. If you chose Kantian Deontological Ethics, you should utilize Introduction to Metaphysics of Morals in your explanation of deontological ethics. If you chose Utilitarianism, you should utilize Bentham’s Introduction to Principles of Morals and Legislation in your explanation of utilitarianism.
