Build a website that is a photo-realistic virtual world. The experience within the website is the business and the website is ever-changing based on the data input by the participants within the website.
Without giving up the exact nature of the business, imagine this: Imagine a garden that is just plain dirt and the website is about cooking recipes. As people enter into dialogue by posting comments and responding to postings, the food categories they talk about begin to grow. In time, perhaps the tomato plants are the biggest in the garden because every recipe has tomatoes. The pumpkin patch might be relatively small because so many recipes call for pumpkins. However, one particular pumpkin in the patch is particularly large because that one recipe is super popular and people are endlessly commenting on it. In time, the garden takes on a life of its own and people can look around the garden looking for popular topics based on the visual cues of large plants which indicate popularity among topics, or large vegetables which indicate an individually popular recipe within the topic.
But of course, this web experience has nothing to do with gardens, or recipes. And it very well might have a material impact on the world...for better and for worse.
