FOMS is a forest management company

We want to enable prospective and current clients to login to our site and - having already entered a set of specific information relevant to their forest they can check the approximate value of it at a given time.

FOMS would load monthly current and historical pricing so they can see where they sit at any given time. Details below.

Preface –

• Many forest owners with forests that are say from 19 YO plus don’t usually have a clue as to their value. If they do have an idea of value it is usually outdated and bears no resemblance to current market prices

• Yet these forests can often make up a significant (if somewhat variable) part of an enterprise’s balance sheet.

• As an asset many forest owners don’t manage or identify there forests changing value over time

• Being able to manage and access an assets value real time – must have real value to an owner.

• I cant think of any other investment or commodity where you can’t immediately access its market value without having to formally engage a valuer or consultant to do it – perhaps other than Property but property doesn’t swing as wildly as forests.

The plan

• Make it easy for forest owners to get up to date accurate asset values via a FOMS web portal.

• We set up our web site portal so that forest owners can register their forest either on line - or manually

• Effectively we create a simple on line costing model based on “approximate or estimate costs” for their forest.

• Each month we amend the log prices by port/customer so that these filter into their forest costings and effectively give them an updated net position each month.

• Sales prices would of course be hidden initially – all we report is Nett return in a range of formats $/ ha, $/ Tonne and or Lump sum

• This can be set up to be very low input – ie 10 minute upload of pricing.

• I suggest we would want to attempt to visit these people and build the costings reasonably accurately – Good opportunity to form relationship and put some faces behind the business.

• All data would be only available to registered users and would only show what was relevant to the specific register user.

Essentially we are keen to;

1. Set up a client registration process and “semi - automated back office” so that registered users can access the site and check the value of their asset in real time.

2. We have a standard costing model – simple excel sheet we use to “value” forest.

3. The intent would be to set up a model for each registered user that is particular to their own forest with the appropriate costs, and other forest variables added in.

4. Then we could simply upload a table of prices each month that the models looked at and drew the log price info from and then spat out a couple of different valuation measures. Ie a total lump sum for the forest and perhaps a return per hectare and return per tonne. It would be good to also show these numbers against a benchmark – like a 5 year price average which could be drawn from a separate table uploaded of rolling average prices.

5. All they would see would be the 3 numbers – we don’t intend to show them the model or the prices.

The excel sheet attached is effectively the forest valuation costing.

FOMS would "set the forest up" in the portal on first contact with the client.

From this point on the base data wouldn't change

FOMS would only overlay the current market and rolling average pricing info.

THe client could check the value any time he logged in.

We could see who was logging in and who we can target directly.
