This app was first written 28 years ago in foxpro for dos. it has been migrated to foxpro for windows and when it stopped running under Win 7 to visual foxpro. It continues to run even under win 10 (amazing, isn't it?)
The company I wrote it for is still run by the original founders who are now getting on in years and have to turn to their children for help.
The program runs on a stand-alone machine. Over the years, that machine has been replaced and each time they had to visit me for a reinstall. They would prefer (and so would I) that this not be needed. They download info from DMV and Carfax and enter it into the app. They asked if this info could be imported via an API. I recommended the entire app be written for the net so it could run on any machine with no special installation needed and will not need upgrading when a new version of windows comes out. They might also give their clients the ability to look up and enter their own cars. I believe that once the program is complete, other companies might want to use it and pay some sort of fee to the first company since they paid for the development or they might pay a per-car or per-month fee which could go toward more enhancements. This is why there must be a company table and a company ID field to filter data for specific companies. The user log in table needs company ID and also client ID so if the user is a client of the company, they only see their own cars and invoices.
The system does not need bells and whistles. It doesnt have to be mobile ready. except for some logos on the printed forms, there are no graphics. what they have now is somewhat crude but it works and it's fast. that's their main concern. the flow should remain the same except where it can be streamlined.
Forms also change every few months. They would like to ability to create their own forms and tie it to the data. There is a program called Adobe DC which seems to allow that. So determine what would be required to use adobe dc to create forms and tie them to the data.
