We are looking for a committed and experienced developer to develop a simple iOS application. The application has been wireframed and extensively technically specified.

You will be required to build a functional application which can:

- Scan barcodes (Using the provided library detailed below)

- Parse the information from the barcodes.

- Send a print command to a bluetooth printer.

User Journey

Sally is a nurse. One day, she is asked to take 10 blood samples from 10 patients.

Sally takes an iOS device and Bluetooth printer to the first patient, along with a needle and syringe, un-labeled test tube and a blood sample request form. She opens the “Secure Blood Sampling” app. She reads the on-screen instructions and clicks “Begin process”. She is asked to scan her staff ID badge and can see the camera view on the iOS device. She holds the iOS device over the barcode on her staff ID badge and hears a “beep” when the barcode is read. She is then asked to scan the patient’s wristband barcode. She holds the iOS device over the DataMatrix barcode on the patient’s wristband and hears a “beep” when the barcode is read. She is then shown a screen with the patient’s personal details (which have been parsed from the barcode). Below the patient’s details is a question “Has the patient verbally confirmed these details?”. She clicks on Yes. She then sees a question on the screen “Have you compared the Unique Identifier on the request form against the iPad and/or the patient wristband?”. She clicks Yes. She now sees a screen which says “Please now take the blood specimen.” and a timer is shown on the screen. She then puts down the iOS device and takes the blood sample from the patient with a needle and syringe, and puts the blood into an un-labeled test tube. She then picks up the iOS device again. She clicks on Continue. She now sees a screen which says “Have you compared the Unique Identifier on the request form against the iPad and/or the patient wristband?”. She then scans the barcode on her staff ID badge and hears a beep. She then sees a button which says “Print Label”. She presses “Print Label”. The bluetooth printer she has prints out 2 labels. She takes one label and sticks it to the test tube. She takes the other label and sticks it to the sample request form.

Once this process is completed Sally clicks on “Finished” and is the process begins again.

Functional Requirements

Platform

iOS. The application will be used on iPads and iPods.

Deployment

The application will NOT be sold on the App Store. It will be privately licensed and deployed.

Barcode Reading

As described in the user journey, the user will scan a 1D barcode on their ID badge, and a 2D barcode on the patient’s wristband using the built-in camera on the iOS device. The information contained in the barcodes will be parsed and printed on the label at the end of the process as well as shown on the screen during the process.

We have extensively tested a number of iOS libraries for this purpose and have decided to use the Manatee Works Barcode Scanner Library. This library is included in the brief download package.

You will be required to implement the Manatee Works Barcode Scanner Library for barcode scanning.

Barcode Reading

Here is an example of the output from reading the patient barcode:

Printing via Bluetooth Printer

The application will send a print command to a bluetooth printer. Applicants should have experience with the iOS print SDK.
