Convert python script to Django for Google App Engine

I've created a simple python script that captures some json data around the web and sends an email. I want to automate the execution of this script everyday without having to do it from my computer and want it to be accessible from http. I'd like to use Google App Engine to host this script and would like to convert it to django. Google provides a template for it and so I would like to use this as the base for this project.
What I'd need...
- Use the django template from Google App Engine
- Convert attached python script to it
- Provide alternative to smtp server to send email (I don't really like using my own accout - are there alternatives?)
- Test it with Google Cloud Playground ([url removed, login to view])
- Provide link so I can test it myself
This will only be used for cron jobs at first, so I don't really care about website design at this point.
