ROC 1.0 – (Record Of Condition Developer)

Software program specification

Brief

To develop a simple software program which allows surveyors/solicitors to organise photos and attach descriptions to each photo. These can then be re-ordered easily and a PDF final document produced so as they can save it onto their computer. This should be a very easy to use and self-explanatory program. Nothing complicated, and not too many options.

Compatibility

- The program should be compatible with Windows XP (Home & Pro), Vista (Home & Pro) & Windows 7.

Functionality

- The user must be able to plug in their digital camera to their computer and be able to upload their pictures into the software into a window. The window should display thumbnails of what the images are.

- The thumbnails should be able to be moved about to reorder the pictures and some deleted if wanted. This order will be the order of the images in the final document produced. The user should then click ‘Next’.

- (The Image format) This should then move to the next window, where there should be numbered thumbnails of the images (About 5cm x 5cm) all down the left hand side of the screen and text boxes next to each image on the right hand side of the window (Like in a Facebook style method). The user should then be able to write the description for each picture in that box. Throughout this process the user should be able to ‘Save’ their progress and come back to the document to complete it another time if needed. Once they have completed this section, they should click ‘Next’/

- (The front cover format) - The user should then be able upload a company logo to the top left hand corner of the font page. They should then also be able to enter the following information, which should be on separate lines evenly space and centralised on the front page.

· Company Name

· Scheme/Client/Property Name

· Authors Name & Qualifications

· Date

- This should then allow the user to choose how many pictures they want on a page, (Either 2,4,6 or 8).

- Then user should be able to click “Generate ROC’.

- This button will then generate a PDF document, which will have the pages of photos (with the correct number of photos per page), and these should have a small number to the top left side of each image. This number should correlate with the order in which the images were put into in the upload window.

- The footer of the document should have the ‘Date’, ‘Name of scheme or client’ and ‘Name of the company’ as the small separate captions and page number below these captions.

- The descriptions added onto each image should be compiled into a ‘Contents Page’, which should come after the front page. The numbers next to each description should correlate with the order of the photos, so the user can look at a description and then flick to the correct photo in the document.

- Therefore the format of the report generated should run as follows:

· Front page

· Contents Page showing the descriptions added.

· Main Document with photos

· End page, which should in the centre say ‘End of Record’ and there should be lines for the author to signature and date the document.

Style

There should be a range of fonts to choose from. The colour of the PDF report should be white and the font black.

Licensing

I want to be able to allow firms to use the program for a month trial before then having to pay for an individual annual user licence over PayPal for a certain amount (Say £30 per user per year). The one download of the program should be restricted to one user licence and profile. Each user should have to pay for their individual licence, or a firm can pay a lump sum up front for a batch of licence numbers which can be emailed and posted to them if the wish.

I am not too sure about the licensing methods – or best way to do this. If any of you have good ideas so as to help me maximise my security and income then suggestions are welcome.
