     I was about to COPY and modify a cool stock image logo for another entry and see what'll happen, but it's too late. :D

  Just for informtaion... Some logos are not imitated! As u said some people don't search google to find similar things... SECOND OF ALL Placing your logo on a Shaded background, is very old trick in order not to let people find your logo... So in general to make sure that the logo is authentic It should be on a white background... Otherwise you can't find if its stolen or not!

     But maybe they didn't really know that their icon design has a similar stock image.

     "Maybe" = giving them the benefit of the doubt. There's a really limited design that you can make for a double P logo. Been doing this 'trick' only for 2 weeks because more than half of the entries is doing it, so far it's not giving me any positive results yet. Last 3 contests that I've won in the past 4 weeks is Logos that's I present plain/no trick, just got lucky that those designs suits the CH's taste, that's all.
