The Concept Paper-The FarmMarket
The lack of a defined market is disincentive to the farmer enough to decrease production or stay static while the inability of buyers to have access to a formal market for their raw commodities eventually halts processing.
However, availability is met with high prices which is informed by high cost of production as a result of high cost of inputs or its access, lack of adherence to productions protocols and post-harvest loses, high cost of transportation and lack of mistrust between producers and buyers.
The FarmMarket is established to enable information to increase supply and demand for agricultural commodities and inputs and also offer extension advice which would bring about suitable and tangible change in agricultural production.
Objectives
• Support aggregation of company’s commodities
• Create direct access to market for producers and defined market for buyers
• Monitor prices and other market factors of products as well as customers and strategically respond
• Extend agronomy advisory services
• Give access to inputs in collaboration with established inputs firms
Beneficiaries
Farmers seek higher prices for their produce, and protection from price fluctuations. They try to reduce the amount of post-harvest waste, and secure guarantees for the sale of their produce
Traders, Poultry Farmers and industry
Agrichemical companies promote solutions to farm problems, offering farmers higher yields and protection from pests. However, many solutions would be more strongly resisted by consumers, if it weren’t for effective public relations.
