I have a Patent Document in MS Word document that requires translation from English to Spanish. There are 10 illustrations that should not require any translation. Experience in legal translations would be a distinct advantage. Please note, this is a manual translation, not some computer generated effort. You must be a native Portuguese speaker, from a Portuguese speaking country. I am also only prepared to work with individuals, not Translation companies. To illustrate that you have read the requirement, you must begin your response with "Rio". The time frame is 10 calendar days from awarding the contract.
Please note: Your first bid is your final bid, not a lead-in bid. IE I will not entertain increasing bids after the project has been awarded and the documents sent. On the other hand, I will not increase the scope and expect you to stick to your original price. I expect honesty and integrity from both parties. Apologies if this sounds a bit terse but I have had bad experiences with this process before.
Thank you for your interest. Because of the strong interest from some very promising bidders, I have decided to request a sample translation Please find attached a sample document (270 Words). Please translate this into the required language. Note: I am also looking for attention to detail. As a legal document, it must maintain the layout.
I will be reviewing the example translations tomorrow, and making my final cut.
Firstly, I would like to say that I am overwhelmed (literally) by the response. I appreciate your time and whilst I will not be able to provide individual feedback I hope this is of some value.
I suggest that people using this service want some kind of personal attention, so automated responses are a sure-fire way to put people off. My little test of the code word at the front of the response works very effectively. I do not even look any further but simply click on the "Didnt read the project description" button.
Next and crucially, I am looking for attention to detail. Poor grammar, spelling mistakes, typos in what should be your best foot forward will not be entertained. If mistakes are made in a few lines, what does that say about the task required. Remember, attention to detail is everything.
I am unable to enter into correspondence with those that are cut from the list. I am in the position where I have a good selection to choose from. I will not necessarily choose the cheapest. I am looking for quality.
After consideration, it is likely that I will choose two translators. One to convert from English to the other language, and one to convert the translated document back to English for a sense-check. If shortlisted, I hope that you are willing to be considered for this task.
Once again I thank you for your interest and wish you all the best. As native English-speaker's go, we tend to be a bit lazy in learning other languages, and I am always impressed by anyone who can speak more than one language to any extent.
I wish you all the best in the future.
Firstly thank you for your translations. I have gone through all of them.
I copied your translation and used Google Translator to convert it back to English. Whilst not perfect it is at least consistent, and has given me some insight into the difficulties I might encounter. I have included the score in the following attachments. This has helped me greatly.
Unfortunately I cannot communicate with you individually.
One important point that the exercise has demonstrated is the high quality and variation of translations.
Some phrase "Payoff Diagram", "Trader", "Exercise Price", "Strike Price", "Breakeven" will need to be consistent and able to be translated back and forth without mutation. Remember, that of the course of the patent application, there will be some correspondence from the Patent Office that will require additional translation for an additional fee.
I once again thank you for your efforts, and appreciate the difficulty of the task without the diagrams. I hope you have gained some benefit from the exercise.
I will be selecting two from each language in the next couple of days.
