This is my text: Title: Comparison of post-merger performance of Chinese-German acquisitions with non-acquired peers Abstract: Politicians in Germany are heavily discussing whether to interfere with foreign and also Chinese acquisitions of German companies without even knowing whether foreign or Chinese investments in Germany are not beneficial to the German market. The purpose of this thesis is therefore to explore the topic of Chinese-German cross-boarder M&A activities and the corresponding post-merger performance of acquired German companies. With a sample of 142 Chinese-German cross-border transactions, the survival rate of the acquired companies, as well as a detailed post-acquisition performance comparison for selected public companies have been performed. The results indicate, that acquired German companies do not go bankrupt more often and also do not generally underperform compared to its non-acquired German peer companies. Nonetheless, the in-depth analysis of the KUKA-Midea transaction shows that on a qualitative level the acquisition has not fulfilled the high expectations by German industry and policy leaders as the Chinese investor is allegedly aiming to move more of KUKAs R&D activities towards China. This leads to the conclusion, that Chinese investors, like any other investor, try to maximize their return on investment. Although this does not influence the quantitative post-merger performance of German companies, other areas such as the R&D development and intellectual property might be affected.
