Speed up bash compare script

Good day guys.
I've written a script to compare MD5 (a string of text) between two test files and output anything different to a test file.
This works perfect, however recently with a larger amount of files it's beginning to crawl.
I need a more efficient way of doing this.
I've included my script and two folders with files to compare one labeled Small Test files work fine the one labeled Large Test Files is the one I'm trying to reduce the time.
The script is run using bash on OSX machines. It would be nice to keep it Bash, but I'm open to other options if it is more efficient/fast.
FYI you would use Option 3 "Compare mhl to md5" in my script
