A multilingual Ecommerce website you can build based on an available open source e-commerce solution built with codeigniter. GoCart and TomatoCart are two of them. You want to use the smarty engine for templating. We can incorporate the Smarty Engine in GoCart or TomatoCart. If you are planting to build the ecommerce solution from scratch using codeigniter and smarty will do it that way. A successful e-commerce solution will depend on the development of an database architecture to support extensions. An ecommerce solution essentially need CMS. So we will start with an Advanced database schema for the CMS & E-commerce and then will and a CRM to if you desire. We will setup the basic multilingual admin in Codeigniter Bootstrap with Smarty. We will use the Smarty as the third party solution and keep the Smarty library in the third_party directory of the codeigniter directory structure. We will make a library class extending the Smarty class which will work as the bridge between Smarty and codeigniter’s view logic. We will build the payment and shipping process in a way that you can addons multiple payment processors and methods later.
