I have an app in which I let the user add products and set a price for them. I wanted to let the user choose the currency for these prices. And I did it in two ways, showing below I have made a custom list of all currencies, then associate these with a proper locale My suggestion: Depending on what you want to display to users, creating your own configuration could be best. You can also query NSLocale to get the availableLocaleIdentifiers which you could display (or use to filter your custom list to locales the system understands). Setting the locale of the number formatted is much better and more reliable than trying to specify your own formats. Change currency symbol and amount based on county dynamically In most cases, the currency symbol won't be enough. For example, in Germany we write our prices like this: 1,99€ but people in the US use $1.99. There are three differences in the string. The currency symbol, the position of it and the separator. My suggestion: NSNumberFormatter is definitely the way to go! You can set an NSLocale on the NSNumberFormatter, the formatter will automatically behave according to that locale. The default locale for a number formatter is always the currency for the users selected region format. This will log the amount according to the users default region format. If you want to alter the currency you can set. Here you are: NSLocale *locale = [NSLocale currentLocale]; for (NSString *code in [NSLocale ISOCurrencyCodes]) { }
