Hello sir/madam, This is wensley who is writing about your the project you posted regarding removing the sync from your on premise to office 365. As per your environment I would assume you would be having AD Connect in place that would be syncing your on premise active directory to office 365. removing that would not be much of an hassle as just a few things would be needed to be taken care of. coming to the point of taking a backup of your mailboxes in office 365 that depends on how many mailboxes do you have up in the cloud and their size. Based on that an ediscovery can be done to have a .pst backup of all your mailboxes. so if there are not many mailboxes it should be easily done within 10 days. I have done deployment/decommission of two factor authentication with office 365 and local DC sync with office 365 in my previous jobs.
