Linux Mint - External driver not working

On Linux Mint latest version 3rd monitor is recognized but not displaying on high resolution. Only 800x600 is displaying, but the monitor+VGA card support up to 1920x1080. Connectivity: Minidisplay port OS: Mint 64bit , latest updates. Laptop: DELL Latitude E7440 inxi -Fxz output: Card: Intel Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller bus-ID: 00:02.0 Display Server: [login to view URL] 1.18.4 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev,vesa) Resolution: 1368x768 60.00hz, 800x600 75.00hz, 1920x1080 60.00hz GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Haswell Mobile GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0 Direct Rendering: Yes I tried manually adding 1920x1080 via the 'xrandr' command, but didn't work. I believe there is either an issue with my Intel graphic card or the within the OS it self. I have also tested this with other monitors and other display port cables. Please assist.
