Illustrate children's book and comic-strip style scenarios for social inclusion school based program for students with Autism

Hi, My name is Amy Hodges and an Occupational Therapist and PhD candidate within School of Occupational Therapy, Social Work and Speech Pathology at Curtin University. My PhD project involves developing and evaluating a school based intervention to improve the school participation and connectedness (i.e. feelings of acceptance, inclusion etc.) of students with ASD in mainstream classrooms. The idea of the intervention is to help students increase their awareness and understanding of neuro-diversity (or difference); be able to recognise when someone needs help, accept others for their differences and take action to help and include others at school. I am currently looking for an illustrator to assist me with developing the resources for the classroom program. This would involve illustrations for a children’s book (targeted at Year 3 to 4 students, 8 to 10 years old) and 8 to 10 comic-strip style scenarios of the characters of the book in different situations at school. The illustrations would need to be relatively simple but engaging for the target audience with detail in the characters faces (as students will be asked what they might be thinking and feeling). Students will use these comic strips in different ways in each module – but the general gist, is that they have to problem solve different situations/ scenarios and practice skills of recognising, accepting and deciding on the action they’ll take to help others at school. I want to engage an illustrator ASAP - the illustrations need to be finished by mid to late 2019. I plan to pilot the intervention in schools in 2020.
