Alien Dimensions is a short story ebook magazine dedicated to science fiction, fantasy and metaphysical stories set in the future.
I'm looking for authors to contribute stories to the series on an irregular basis.
2500-3000 words per story. US$5 paid to you per story, so 5 stories would be US$25. You agree to give all rights to the story to me ongoing for future publications, reprints, in anthologies and more. (Of course, if the series becomes hugely successful and someone wants to use your story for something other than a book, I'll refer them directly to you!)
What I'm looking for:
* Main character discovers an issue and solves it using science (or convincing pseudoscience based on current science) So, no battle-oriented stories. Think intellectual Doctor Who stories where the character uses his/her mind to solve a problem.
* Always set in the future, at least 100 years hence.
* Always some kind of aliens are present, usually friendly.
* The more alien the environment, the better. Stretch people's minds with your concepts! Nothing mainstream or easy SF.
* PG 13. No sex, swearing or obvious LGBT themes
* Styles of writing similar to Asimov, Bear, Simak, Clarke, Niven, Liu.
* All stories must be original. No using copyright characters or established series. No rewriting someone else's work. All work will be checked via copyscape.
* No 'time travel to the past' stories or 'parallel universe Hitler won the war future Earth' style stories, unless it's millions of years in the past or the parallel universe is completely alien.
* Of course, I would expect a high level of grammar, vocabulary, dialogue, character development, and general creative writing ability. If you are not a native English speaker, you need to have scored 9 in every band in an IELTS exam to be able to apply.
If you're interested in doing this please send me a sample of one of your most recent stories. Don't begin writing for Alien Dimensions until I've seen your work and approved a story from you. I would then want an outline to make sure it will fit in with the culture of the series.
Please choose a pen name which I will use for the story, the contents page and sometimes on the front and back covers and in reviews.
Send as unformatted basic windows doc file. (not docx)
Let me know if you have any questions. Looking forward to hearing from you.

P.S. I realise that $5 per story isn't much, but these kinds of publications don't make much. The attraction for writing, especially if you're not yet an established author, is that I will be making the publication free via Amazon 5 days a quarter. Your name will also be listed on the main website at [login to view URL] Your name will hopefully get some publicity as a result. Below is a free copy of Alien Dimensions #1 as a guide.

I read science fiction in my free time and would love to contribute by writing a piece. I have read from H.G. Wells to lesser known stories like "Heat Death of the Universe". I love shows like Doctor Who and books that deal with time travel.
I have an plethora of sci-fi short stories jumping in my brain right now. Also, I'm currently in the midst of writing a science-fiction novel right now so I'm definitely in the mood for some science (I won't use the same concepts in my novel here, as you've said). Cherry on the top, I'm actually lazy with with writing anything over 3,000 words. 2.5K to 3K is the sweet spot for me in short stories. Match made in heaven, my friend—like two quantum entangled atoms, you and me.
As for the actual writing, I have no problem producing a piece under three days minimum—editing and proofreading included. If I happen to get hit by a volvo(god forbid) or get Influenza, I might take 7 days max with the same quality of work.
For the pay, I'm happy with $5. Heck, last client I had who wanted me to write a 5K-word article about Seoul only gave me a burger and a box of nuggets—probably more than $5, but you get my drift. You can stock on cash; not on burgers and McNuggets. You can buy a Steam Game with cash; but not with burgers and McNuggets.
Can I put an emoji? Is that considered unprofessional? Sure it is. But guess what? I'll put one anyway because I'm a rebel.
;)

I am very interested in becoming a writer for your SF eBook which I am still reading :)
I don't have a completed SF story to show you but I am more than willing to write a start to one so you can see what my writing is like.
I am more than happy with your offer of $5 per story, I am currrently writing a novel so the short stories are a nice break from it at times.
I look forward to hearing from you.
