"17. Addict. Suspect. Superhero?"
"Mrs. DeVelli's clamorous cries for help bounced off the living room walls unchallenged. As she struggled first with breathing and then with standing, her son Mike dropped his backpack to the floor just ten feet away, nodding his head to the late 90's hip-hop spilling out from his headphones. He turned up the volume and animated his lips. The suburban sprawl of Brooklyn Heights was a far distance from the mean streets of Compton and this was obvious to anyone, except perhaps Mike.
Nate Dogg's smooth baritone vocal took over Warren G's more aggressive rhymes when Mike DeVelli Jr scanned the room to fix his hunger and became locked in a staring contest with a jar of candy beans. The candy beans, colourful and seductive, called to him.
Within minutes half the candy beans were gone and in the next room, unknown to Mike, so was his poor mother."
Hey there! I'm a singer/songwriter and aspiring novelist, currently working on an exciting music album + fiction novel project.
I have outlined the story in a lot of detail but due to work commitments, I'm finding it hard to flesh out the pages - this is where you come in! I have detailed character descriptions and have plotted the action... I need someone who can help bring the characters to life and advance the plot with nuance, wit and excitement.
It tells the story of a young man's journey through addiction, with a mystery-thriller feel and a supernatural element for good measure. Think Hubert Selby Jnr meets David Mitchell! The book will consist of 12 chapters, each about 20 pages in length. Aiming for 250 pages in total.
Ultimately, I have the story planned out and need help in detailing this but I'm happy to collaborate and would want this writer to feel free to present ideas to contribute. I typically use Christopher Vogler's 12 Stages of the Journey when writing in order to get some basic structure in place. I've kept this in mind when writing this novel. Also, there are 12 songs on the album and each chapter is named chronologically after it's song equivalent. I will use lyrics from these songs throughout the novel too.
To be considered, please submit examples of your creative writing work so I can see your skill and style. This should be a 6-8 week project with a first draft completed of all 12 chapters.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
