The following is a rough draft of what is needed: The contractor will be responsible for producing Device Tree overlays that enables 3 CAN Channels on the Raspberry Pi utilizing SocketCAN. They will enable these overlays so that the three CAN devices are available at boot-up. Hamilton will verify all three CAN channels can send and receive CAN messages using SocketCAN. Any configuration changes will be documented and given to Hamilton. Technical Details: The hardware used will be the Microchip MCP2515 CAN controller which operates over SPI. This is conveniently packaged on the PiCAN2 Duo board from Copperhill Technologies which contains two CAN controllers. Raspbian is packaged with the “mcp2515-can0” and “mcp2515-can1” overlays as well as several SPI overlays. The Raspberry Pi has two SPI buses available. SPI 0, which has 2 chip-selects available, and SPI 1, which has 3 chip-selects available. Thus, SPI 1 should be used unless it is possible to enable a third chip-select on SPI 0. We will need a “can2” overlay to enable a can2 device using CS2. If the built-in SPI overlays are insufficient, they must be modified. Provide new names for any overlays that are changed; do not overwrite the defaults.
