The project involves designing a single-player game that relies on the Microsoft Kinect Xbox interface. The game will comprise of two levels and each level will be repeated three times. In each level, the player will perform a different type of movement in order to control an on-screen avatar. However, unlike more traditional Kinect games such as Just Dance, the avatar’s movements will actually not be controlled in real-time by the player. Instead, the movements of the player during an initial warm-up trial will inform the movements of the avatar in the following game trials. Kinect will detect the rhythm in which the children performed the moves during the warm-up trial and pre-fix the avatar’s movements as slightly slower or faster than the player’s rhythm. Two different backgrounds will be needed that fit with the story of the two levels of the game.
This game will be used by a university for purposes of research with children with autism. The preferred end-date of the project is 1 November 2017.
