Data extraction for AS400 software

Hello, I've spent a whole career around the AS400/iSeries, and still do. Currently working at a large healthcare enterprise on the biggest array of iSeries branch machines in my country. Done any kind of extractions and data uploads from/to AS400. See in my porfolio: DTS development for OLAP cubes out of AS400 databases. Programmed lots of applications using native languages: RPG all of its versions, COBOL/400, CL, SQL packages etc. Client/server VB apps linking to AS400 tables through ODBC. I can perform all data extraction tasks towards the necessary format (DB2, MySQL, SQLServer or another type) or excel, txt, csv, etc. But I can also generate WEB-type software, internal to the AS400, so that this extraction is requested by the user, said software was made for public administration in Argentina (Ministry of Health).

I have worked on 3 projects till date which required Data extraction from AS400 for Re-platforming purposes. It would be great if you can answer few of my queries: 1.) Is AS400 running on Client access? 2.) If yes, do you have ODBC installed with it? 3.) Do you have any documentation for File Structure - including the total number of files that needs to be extracted? 4.) How do you want output of the data extraction - In excel format, flat file format? 5.) What is the time frame for completing the project? Based on the answers you provide, I can help in getting the data extracted from AS400. Approach: First, I would want to know what data you want to extract with proper file structure. This step is most important with respect to Data integrity. After that, If iSeries Access is available on the system, there are add-ins from it to Excel that allows you to download files into spreadsheets. Or I can even code it on AS/400 box a program which will read, format and output the data in a .csv type format and use stream file commands to send the data from AS/400 box to Windows. We can even use FTP to send the files to another system. There may be other options, such as SQL, depending on what is available on your AS/400 so I need to know the answer to above queries before proceeding.
