Hello, we have an old bespoke application written in Access 2.0 / VB4. It is purpose is to process some financial files and update the database with new data. The MDB file went over size limits (1GB) so we need to migrate it to a new software. Our target is Access 2013/VB.NET/Windows 7 64-bit or Access 365/VB.NET/Windows 10. We can provide the MDB file, and we have the source code for VB4 application. The tasks are to: 1. Migrate the MDF file into Access 2013 or Access 365 - the database is large but relatively simple. There are no forms or anything complex, just tables 2. Convert the VB4 code into VB.NET code. There is a small UI (a few simple screens), and more importantly some logic which reads input files and populates the database. The VB4 application is about 15K lines of code (total, including forms). Attached is a one of the files from the VB application. You will need to use your own software, we don’t provide licenses for any of this or development software to do the task. The expected deliverables: 1. VB.NET executable with the same UI, that works with the specified Access 2013/365 database 2. Provided the same input database and the same input files, it should produce the same output database EXACTLY I need to have a rough estimate (order-of-magnitude) of how long you think it might take you to complete this (just to understand the complexity and budget), and the daily rate. Dear Client, I am interested upgrading your current VB/Access system. However, I would like to propose to build the front-end also in MS-Access 2013 as well as change the back-end to MS-Access 2013. Therefore, on the front-end there will be just front-end components (forms/reports/business logic). Note that, the front-end also looks like a .NET application and as close fast as a .NET program. Furthermore, the best part the when we needs update we can easily do it. To have a glimpse of User Interface (UI) developed on MS-Access 2013 as front-end, Please review my portfolio for my older development screen shots. Hi, I think here are two ways to solve properly your project. Via Ms Access 2013 split DB - Access front end and Access backed. The max size here 2GB for back end ( also we can rise size to use multi back ends ...) The second way as you wrote via VB.NET with Ms Access 2013 .. I am ready for those ways. ..I will prefer the first though.. As for time in first case it will be code more faster within 10 days . with second cays in range two weeks to one month. Hello, Here are the details that I would use/implement in developing your system. 1. We will develop the system on Microsoft Visual Studio 2012/2015 using VB.Net language. We can also develop it using C#.Net in case you consider it. 2. We will be using Telerik RadControls for Winforms to have your UI/screens to look modern since it provides built skins/theme ie Gray, Blue etc that we can use for the look and feel 3. The back end will be migrated to MS Access 2013/365. You mentioned that the database is getting bigger so you might want to consider migrating it to MS SQL Server database since it is more robust, secured and can accommodate large set of data. 4. I don't have any idea how many forms/screens you have but my ballpark estimated time to complete the project would be between 10-20 days I am bidding for a fixed price because I believe it would be more expensive if we will go on daily rate basis. Let me know if you want to some examples of my work with regards to VB.Net development. I can send some screenshots. Regards, Grunty. ------- Hello, I've recently done this very kind of conversion for a VB5 application based on DAO/Access-97 to VB.NET based on ADO/Access-2010 (see project: https://www.freelancer.com/projects/NET/Need-migrate-application-based-Access/) In your sample form I see it uses DAO technology for the db. I developed a suite of tools to assist me in converting features not handled in generic conversions - mostly database commands and old components not supported by VB.NET. That project originated as a mere conversion but evolved to a longer-running one to accommodate enhancements my client took the opportunity to implement. Conversion is finished - now finishing improvement stage. End user's look&feel is almost exactly the same, except for functional improvements. Please note: completion time is tricky to assess - transitions DAO>ADO and 32>64bit do take extra work. As for target versions, I'd take the prudent approach: Access 2013 + Windows 7.
