Authorization system for rails website

Hi, I have 5 year experience in Ruby on rails, I have worked in and deployed many rails application to AWS and digital ocean with instance using Ubuntu OS.I Use Capistrano for deployment, also configured nginx with unicorn I have not done with cancan, i don know if it is possible, what i'll do always is to create a new column and set the property(public,private secret) for their project. Depending on that we can either display or hide.
